Health check stuff

November 13, 2024

Last week, I went to get my annual mandated health check. While I’m definitely grateful, I’m also dramatic and hate doing it. For the first time in over a year I saw a number on a scale. I’ve mentioned a few times about how I know I’ve lost weight over the year, but the number on the scale was far from what I thought it might be. πŸ₯Ή My perception of reality was skewed since I probably started out so high and got used to how I looked in the mirror over time (and I do not like it lol). Well, I’m back to walking much more than before with this cool weather and I’ll just be weighing myself every couple weeks or so now that I know what I’m dealing with as of November. πŸ˜… No doom and gloom though, things are working and it’s just going to take time.

A little while ago, I also went hiking again with a couple work people and that was fun. I did struggle quite a bit since it was a steady incline straight up a little mountain. We went to Minoh, and just getting there was its own journey. πŸš‹ I’ve trekked up to the waterfall before, but that was years and years ago. This time, we took a pretty rustic route that went up above the waterfall.

It was surprisingly perilous? There were many points where it looked like slipping would be the end. Also lots of giant webs and spiders… There were just a couple places that had stairs. Once we got up to the top and I caught my breath, we ate lunch and spilled a lot of tea. πŸ’… Going down was almost harder than going up. My legs were pretty much jello by the time we got to the stairs below, which look deceivingly nice when in actuality each step down was uneven and gigantic.

There were a few different warning signs, the saddest of which was one telling people not to abandon their pets there. Other signs warned about monkeys. My favorite sign was this one warning people of toxic fungi. I really appreciate them including a picture of one that looks like fingers. Sooo gross but cool at the same time. Reminds me of another fungus called dead man’s fingers.

This one here is called poison fire coral (trichoderma cornu-damae).

We climbed down to get to the waterfall and I didn’t include any pictures featuring people, but there were A LOT of people. It was nice and cool on this day. Couldn’t imagine this during summer.

A new record.

And in the end I got in a little over 3 hours of walking and made it passed 20,000 steps! Because of all the ups and downs, I felt this excursion for three days. 😌

Totally unrelated, but I thought I’d mention something about the election. I guess my family did move out at the best time… Hoping that the cartoon villain is too incompetent to get much done in four years. And that the worst around him actually calling some of the shots just spark infighting. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
