The Super Mario Bros. Movie

May 28, 2023

It’s not often that we get a good video game to movie adaption. Since The Super Mario Bros. Movie dropped, I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. You can bet the quality assurance was very high here. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ I felt the urge all of a sudden yesterday to go see it, and so I did just that. ๐Ÿฟ

Not the most elegant framing. ๐Ÿ˜…

Technically it’s foreign made movie, so I wasn’t expecting so few showings of the subtitled version. Or maybe I was just too lttp. I wanted to see how Chris Pratt did, so I opted for the only available late-showing of the subtitled version. It was genius how they went about the accent stuff. In short, he did a good job. Everyone did a good job!

The action was non-stop and most of the jokes landed for me. The toads were very adorable, too adorable to fight or die indeed. And of course, the movie was overflowing with easter eggs

I could only think of one scene that wasn’t Nintendo related, and it happened to remind me of one of my favorite movies ever: Mad Max Fury Road. ๐Ÿคฉ Paying homage to the best of the best I see. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I especially enjoyed the one second scene of Cat Mario kneading dough on DK’s back.๐Ÿˆ

During the credits, there were so many French names. Looking it up later revealed to me that Illumination is a studio in Paris.

Also, the after credits scene?

Hello???

Overall, I had a dorky grin on my face the whole movie. There must be more to come, right?

And bonus crop of the giant Little Mermaid poster at the theater! Not sure if I’ll get to go out and see it, but I hope it does well. ๐Ÿ’–
