Natural hair journey, again

April 18, 2024 , ,

First things firstβ€”As I’m writing this, the last of the cherry blossoms are hanging on for dear life. 🌸 This year, I didn’t get a chance to go to a big park to view them. The best I could do was the park near work! Lots of other flowers were blooming too, and the roses are going to be ready in a couple weeks. 🌹

Now that it isn’t rainy all the time and is only cold on certain days, it’s hard to figure out what to wear. Last week I went to chat with coworkers in the park after work and would’ve been shivering without my cardigan. I’m over winter but already dreading summer and the intense humidity that comes with the heat.

Anyway, my hair has grown a lot…

So much so that it’s making me feel weird when it’s out because it’s so big. A couple months ago I did a not-so-big big chop. I have a love but mostly hate relationship with my hair and that’s just how life goes. I wish it would have stayed within a curl pattern range, but consistency was too much to ask for… 😭

I also think I look best with my face framed, but that can hardly ever happen now unless I do a twist out and make sure that it’s pressed down in the front where I want the hair to drop.

This is an old picture. Did a twist out but humidity won.

It always grinds my gears when I come across these condescending posts from randos online talking about “Just learn to take care of your hair, duh” or “It’s easy, you just don’t know what you’re doing” etc. etc. The truth about afro textured hair is that IT IS hard to take care of, PERIOD. But that’s mostly if you want length. There’s a reason why people joke about having a “work out” or “fighting for their life” when doing anything with their hair. πŸ’€

Either way, I’m still not going go back to the creamy crack. At least, not in the near future. I might just have to dedicate extra time from here on out and keep it in 2-4 braids. Or commit more to twist outs.

Yesss I love natural hair journeys! I don’t have as textured hair but when my hair is very long the curls are so unruly and heavy! It takes a lot of patience lol. And ignore the online fools!
